About Me
Take one man in his upper forties, mix with 30 years of software development, and fold in a generous portion of medical intrigue. Top with a portion of caring and nurturing. Pour in to a nursing school and bake until done.
Follow along as I journey down the path to become a RN. The program consists of one semester of pre-requisites and four semesters of nurse courses. The semester of pre-requisites consists of up to eight five week courses (I only have to take six courses thanks to transfer credits). After a short break then the nursing courses kick in.
The adventures began in February 2008 when I attended the information session. Well, it actually began about five years before when I was hospitalized for gall bladder surgery but it wasn’t until much later when I was able to pursue the goal. Six months of admission procedures and I’m accepted for a January 2009 start.
I’m not naïve about what I’m about to do. In addition to half a lifetime of experiences, my eldest daughter received her BSN in December 2008 and my wife is currently in her final semester at the same school that I am attending. Between them and all their friends, I have had an atypical look into the life of a nursing student.
Along with the chronicle of my adventures in nursing school, I will be using this site to sell a few select items to raise money for charity and to pay for part of my tuition. Twenty Thirty-three percent of all profits will go to breast cancer research (Susan G. Komen for the Cure) and Multiple Sclerosis (National MS Society), and saving the planet (The Nature Conservancy Organization). The rest will be used to offset my education expenses. The first semester costs $7,100 and the remaining four semesters will be $6,400 each, for a total of $32,700!
What a great investment as it provides me with a rewarding second career while I help the community and beyond.
Thanks in advance for reading my stories and I look forward to your comments and feedback! Let’s get started…
