Practice To Pass

Here’s a practice question for you to work on:
You are a temporary receptionist recently placed at a school. You receive a package in the mail that is addressed to the school but also has a name on it that you don’t recognize. Do you:
1) Ask around with faculty to see if they [...]

Heavy Studies

Did I mention that we received a new “nursing principles” textbook last semester?
It weighs 11 pounds (5kg)! This thing is a footstool.
A lot of the material for the upcoming unit exam is from this text, and I’ve been spending hours upon hours at a time reading and reviewing and browsing.
A couple of [...]

The Big Seafood Fight

I thought I had posted this a couple of months again, but alas I didn’t.  So here it is.
The outlaws were in town for a visit and during that time we had homemade fondue (don’t ask).
Some background.  MIL (Mother-In-Law) had some heart issues earlier in the year and required the placement of a stent in [...]

Y2 S3 W1

And so begins the second year of nursing school.
NICUNurse asked me about my first week back.
I promptly replied “It felt like standing underneath a rock slide.”
And thus ends summer break.

” Those were the days
We’d lay in the haze
Forget depressive times”

The week started out fast and sped up from there.
20 hours of lecture, 4 [...]

Coffee Thoughts

Slogan on coffee mug I saw this morning:
“I considered being a stay-at-home Mom until I found out that the kids would be there too.”

Ready, Set, Go…Fall 2010 Semester

Fall semester classes start on Monday.
Though it really started this week as we got our prep assignments and readings on Monday.
Tons to do just to get to starting gate.
It’s going to be an intense, challenging, and fun few months.

Filling Fear?

SU is laying in the dentist chair.
The lidocaine is starting to take affect when she has the realization that it feels like she could have an allergic reaction (though it doesn’t).
Wit that she looks up at the dentist and hygienist and asks, “Is any one here ACLS certified….besides me??”

Orientation Begins

Today starts the week long orientation for the PRN NA job at the hospital.
Getting paid to sit and listen to the things they have to tell me so I can’t say “They didn’t tell me!”
LOL

Why didn’t you tell me?!

Backstory 1:  During one of the last post-clinical conferences of our first semester the clinical instructor, Mrs. Marley, goes around the table and has each one of us give report on our client and discuss their issues and talk about RN Dx’s.  Mr. B.A. White (who, btw, is anything but timid) is giving discussing his [...]

Isn’t this a Jimmy Buffett song?

Pt admitted for, among other reasons, detox.
Pt is confused and oriented X 1 at best, and RN is trying to orient them to time.
RN: What do you do at night when you are at home?
Pt: Play cards
RN: And what do you do after you play cards?
Pt: Screw
RN: Um, yeah, OK….
Let’s play [...]
